Partner wants to buy fireworks and firecrackers as a souvenir — is that legal to take home?
Street stall near a festival week is selling small firecrackers and sparklers. Partner thinks they would be a fun suitcase souvenir. I think airport security and home customs will hate us. Are consumer fireworks something travelers can legally buy as a keepsake and fly with, or is this a hard leave-it-in-Sri-Lanka situation?

Treat fireworks and firecrackers as a do-not-fly souvenir. Even where small consumer crackers are sold around festival times, packing them into airline luggage is a security problem and often illegal in the cabin or hold. Do not invent a souvenir fireworks permit for tourists. Buy tea, spices, masks, or batik instead. If a stall pushes crackers for the suitcase, smile and walk. Your partner can enjoy the festival noise without exporting it.
