Partner wants to hitchhike the last stretch into Arugam Bay because the bus emptied — wave someone down or wait?

CTB dumped us at a junction with daylight sliding off. Next scheduled bus looks sparse. Partner is already smiling at passing pickups. I have a pack, a phone, and a bad feeling about thumbing the coast road after a long day. Not asking for a private-hire price list. Do people actually hitch this stretch as a normal surf-town move, or do we sit tight for the next bus or a known van?

Sit tight. Call a known van, wait for the next CTB, or walk only as far as a lit shop cluster — do not thumb the last stretch because a forum said surfers do it. Daylight hitching happens; it is still a stranger, a pack, and a road with long empty bits. I will not romanticize it and I will not invent a standard hitch gift. If a marked taxi or a hotel driver you can call by name appears, that is a ride. A grinning pickup is not a plan. Your partner can be bored in a tea shop for an hour. Bored is cheaper than a story you did not want.
