You cannot go "clubbing" during Vesak. Vesak is the most sacred Buddhist festival of the year. The latest news confirmed the entire country is strictly dry—no alcohol is sold anywhere, and all bars, clubs, and liquor stores are mandated by law to close for the duration of the festival. Instead, the "party" is the beautiful, calm street festival of illuminated lanterns and free food stalls (Dansal).

The illuminated lanterns over Beira Lake are stunning and it feels like a giant street festival. Highly recommend walking around.

Most beach bars down south close for a few days during Vesak out of respect as well.
