Phone died after a boat splash — bury it in rice or is the rice-cooker myth just making it worse?
Wake slapped the phone, screen black, not charging. Hostel kitchen offered a bag of raw rice. Friend says put it in a warm rice cooker on warm mode. I have silica packets in the packing cubes. What actually helps in the first hours — and what should I stop doing?

Power it off if it is not already, wipe the outside, remove the case, and dry with air and silica if you have it. Rice is a weak desiccant and dusty; a warm rice cooker is a bad idea — heat can warp parts and drive moisture deeper. Do not plug in to test every ten minutes. Silica packs in a sealed box or bag beat rice folklore. If it stays dead, a repair shop can open and clean; I will not invent success rates. Skip the cooker myth entirely.
Tried rice once, got starch in the port. Next splash I used silica and patience. Shop still had to clean it, but I did not cook the phone.
Phone off, silica in a lunchbox, no cooker. Taking it to a Galle counter tomorrow if still dead.
