Phone slid under the seat on a Matara–Galle CTB and the bus left — Find My, depot, or police first?

Android with Find My Device on. Last ping moves along the coast road. I got off at a short stop for water; when I turned back the bus was gone. Wallet is with me. What sequence actually works — track and chase the depot, file a police note, call the conductor number if I somehow have it?

Keep tracking on Wi‑Fi or a friend's phone, note the last map ping and approximate bus description or plate if you saw it, then contact the depot or CTB desk for that route while the trail is warm. A police report helps if the phone stays missing or you need a paper trail for insurance — it is not always the fastest first retrieve step when Find My still moves. Do not hitch a random chase vehicle in panic. If a conductor number exists on a ticket stub, try it. Stay reachable on a backup number. I will not invent recovery odds.

Tracked to a depot, described the phone case, filed a short note. Got it next morning. Luck plus persistence.

Borrowing partner's phone to watch the ping. Heading toward the Galle end depot next.

Same advice on trains: act while the vehicle is identifiable. Waiting overnight freezes options.

Tell your hotel desk too — sometimes conductors return phones to known stops.
