SINHALA: 'chaya ganna puluwan da?' (may I take a photo?) — or simply raise camera + smile + eyebrow raise. TAMIL: 'photo eduka mudiyum?'. English 'may I take your photo?' with a smile works everywhere. Show the photo after.

Cultural: some elders shy, others love portraits. Kids often exuberant. Best: engage in conversation first (few words), buy something (if at vendor stall), then ask. Never sneak — always ask openly. Small tip (200 LKR) if extended session.
