I drive for both. Honest 2026 picture: PickMe is the LOCAL app, dominant nationwide, with the deepest driver coverage especially outside Colombo (it works in Galle, Kandy, Negombo, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura). Uber works in Colombo and some south-coast towns but coverage thins fast in the hill country and the north. Pricing: usually within 5 to 15 percent of each other; PickMe tends to be slightly cheaper for tuk-tuks (which is the option you usually want for short trips), Uber sometimes cheaper for cars in Colombo. METERED tuk-tuks on the street, if you can actually get the driver to use the meter, are roughly the same as the apps but require haggling and risk being scammed; the apps just remove that whole conversation. Practical tip: install both apps, use PickMe by default outside Colombo, compare prices when both are available.

I tip 50 to 100 LKR for short rides and a bit more for long. Not expected, but very appreciated; drivers earn modestly per ride.

PickMe also has a "PickMe Food" delivery option for late-night meals and a "PickMe Bike" courier for documents. The app is more useful than just rides.
