We are doing the steep hike up Wangedigala near Bambarakanda Falls. We plan to camp right on the summit edge. Are there any natural water springs at the top, or do we carry all our water.

Wangedigala offers some of the best panoramic camping views in the hill country. However, there are absolutely ZERO water sources once you pass the pine forest baseline. You must carry all your drinking and cooking water for the night and the next morning. Plan for at least 4 liters per person, as the climb up the exposed grassy ridge is exhausting and dehydrating.

Make sure you wake up by 5:30 AM. Watching the sunrise illuminate the Udawalawe plains far below from the Wangedigala rock ledge is legendary.

We carried up 5 liters each. It added terrible weight to our packs, but running out of water on that dry, windy summit would have ruined the trip.

Secure your tent with heavy rocks. The wind howling through the Bambarakanda valley at night will snap cheap fiberglass tent poles in half.
