Pointing with fingers Sri Lanka rude

Yes finger-pointing at people is rude (as most Asian cultures). Sri Lankans point with: (1) open hand, palm up, gesture toward. (2) chin or head nod toward the direction. (3) full arm sweep. Never single finger, especially not at people, monks, sacred images.

Directions in shops or streets: 'over there' with hand gesture. In photos, don't point at people you're photographing. In restaurants, wave (small controlled) at server; don't snap fingers or point.
