We are preparing a Pooja fruit basket for the Kataragama temple this evening. Are the monkeys really that aggressive with the offerings and how do we prevent them from stealing it.

The macaques and gray langurs at Kataragama are very bold because they have been fed by humans for decades. Keep your fruit basket completely covered with a cloth and hold it firmly against your body until you cross the bridge and hand it to the Kapurala priest inside the main shrine.

If a large monkey actually grabs your basket, just let it go! Do not try to play tug of war with them, they have sharp teeth and it is not worth getting bitten over a pineapple.
