Industrial rather than tourist, but atmospheric for photographers and history buffs. Visit the Palavi salt pans at sunrise (huge geometric white fields with workers raking salt), the Puttalam Lagoon fishing community, and small pearl-history museum. Half-day at most.

Combine with Kalpitiya kite surfing or Wilpattu safari access — Puttalam is on the way. Not a destination on its own for typical tourists. Pearl production is largely historic; buying pearls here is not a good idea for tourists.
