Common in rural + small guesthouses. Immediate: don't leave food out. Keep bags off floor. Alert owner. If concerned: move to different room or accommodation. Rats carry disease — never touch.

Sri Lankan approach: managed by property owners with cats, traps, occasional pesticide. If persistent concern, upgrade accommodation ($30-60/night gets you rat-free typically). Rural stays trade some critters for character — accept or upgrade.
