Real: 300-500 LKR. Not 200 (that's 5 years ago). Not 800 (tourist gouge). Local rate 300, tourist rate 500. Pay 400 and everyone's happy. Or use PickMe from the app - it shows the fixed rate, no negotiation. Tuk-tuks at the station will start at 800-1000, laugh, say 400, they'll agree at 500 usually.

^ this. PickMe app in Ella now works - just use it. Shows metered price, no bargaining, driver knows the trailhead. Skips the whole tourist-price-negotiation ritual.
