Snorkeling tomorrow. Every mini-mart has strong fragrance lotions; none say reef-safe or mineral. Dive shop shrugged and sold a random tube. Should I hunt a Colombo pharmacy, wear a rash guard and skip lotion on the water, or is ordinary SPF what most people actually use here?

Many snorkelers here lean on rash guards, long-sleeve swim tops, and hats to cut how much cream they need in the water, then use whatever broad-spectrum SPF they trust on face and neck. If labels matter to you, buy before the trip or in larger Colombo pharmacies rather than expecting every Unawatuna aisle to stock mineral sticks. Avoid coating the reef with leftover lotion on your hands when you enter. I will not crown a brand as officially reef-proof — marketing words vary.
