Rekawa (near Tangalle) is a critical nesting site for green, olive ridley, hawksbill and leatherback turtles. Peak nesting April to July with September activity too. Visits organized nightly (usually 7pm-3am windows) with a small conservation fee that supports the nest protection program. Absolutely no white light, no flash photography — red-light torches only.

Follow the ranger's distance rules and stay behind the turtle. She emerges, digs, lays 80-120 eggs, covers, and returns to sea — the whole cycle takes 45-90 minutes. Do not touch, do not stand between her and the water, do not use phone screens facing her. Wear dark clothing.
