Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve is a jungle-shrouded ancient forest monastery from 1st century BCE with unusual double-platform 'pada-danaghara' meditation walkways. ~2 hour moderate hike through old growth. Access via a park permit (~USD 12) and a mandatory forest guide (2500 LKR). Deep humidity, leeches after rain, but truly special atmosphere.

Best in dry months Feb-April. Start early (7-8am), 3-4 hours total. Bring long trousers, closed shoes, water, insect repellent. Small ancient dagobas, forgotten pond fed by underground spring, and monkey troops in canopy. Zero crowds — you'll likely be the only visitor.
