Sandal strap snapped mid-trek — find a glue stall in the next town or turn back now?
Half-day hill walk, not the slick-waterfall boot debate. One strap on my travel sandal tore at the rivet. I have duct tape for a kilometer. Partner says push to the viewpoint then fix it in town. I am picturing a long downhill on one taped foot. Do trekkers usually abort when footwear fails early, or is a tape-and-hope to the next shop normal?

Footwear is your exit plan. If the strap fails early and the remaining walk is rocky or long downhill, turn toward the last shop or the trailhead and fix it properly — tape is a bridge, not a new sandal. A glue or cobbler stall in town can often rivet or cement a strap for a small cash job; I will not invent a fixed price. Limping to a viewpoint on a failing sole is how blisters and twists start. Pride is cheaper than a clinic hop.
Tape held twenty minutes. Peeled. We turned back. Bought a cheap pair in town.
Cobbler stall near the stand. Tea while he worked. Afternoon saved without the risky limp.
