Shoes are full of grit after an hour on the kerb. Can we shake them out between troupes without stepping into the lane. Not wet socks, not closed-toe versus flip-flops before the lock, and not a lost flip-flop in the crush.

Yes — wait for a clear gap between troupes, step one pace back from the kerb, shake out, and get the shoe back on before the next block arrives. Never hop into the lane to empty grit.

Sit on a bag while you do it so you do not lose balance on uneven paving.

One adult watches the lane edge while the other shakes out.
