Sigiriya hot-air balloon cancelled at 4am for low cloud — keep the voucher for another dawn or switch to a jeep day?
Operator WhatsApped before pickup: weather scrub, offered a later-date voucher or a partial shift to another activity through them. We leave the Triangle in two days. Is September cloud cancel common enough that we should stop chasing the balloon and just do Pidurangala plus a countryside jeep, or do people usually salvage a flight the next morning?

Dawn balloons need stable clear layers; low cloud and wind scrub flights regularly in shoulder months. If you only have one or two mornings left, a voucher you cannot use before departure is a paper souvenir — take the pivot. Pidurangala sunrise and a countryside jeep do not replace the aerial view, but they salvage the day without another 3am gamble. Ask in writing what the voucher expiry and transfer rules are; do not accept a vague verbal promise. I will not invent package prices. Weather calls at 4am are normal operations, not a personal slight.
I collect balloon-scrub guests for Pidurangala and village roads all season. Better than staring at the voucher.
Took the jeep+Pidurangala option. Cloud sat on the rock all morning — balloon would have been soup.
Different hills, same lesson: weather wins. Pivot early, stop refreshing the radar.
