40s, decent shape, not a hiker. Can I make it up?

Sigiriya is 1200 steps, about 1.5-2 hours up at moderate pace. Not technical - concrete and metal steps the whole way with railings. Steep sections and a caged catwalk over cliff face (uncomfortable if you fear heights). For 40s decent shape: absolutely doable. Start at 6am gate opening to avoid heat. Bring 1L water, hat, sunscreen. Total round trip 3-4 hours including summit time.

6am arrival, poles for descent. Booking now.

Pace yourself. Most 'hard' reports come from people going 11am in 34C heat. Cool 6am start = pleasant climb. If knees are an issue on descent, use trekking poles. Alternative if you want the view without the climb: Pidurangala Rock opposite (shorter, easier, better photo of Sigiriya Rock itself).
