Sigiriya sunrise vs sunset climb - which is worth more?
3 Answers from travellers
Sunrise (6am gate open, summit by 7:30). Advantages: cool temperature, morning mist over paddies below (dramatic photos), fewer crowds early. Disadvantages: 5am wake-up. Sunset (last entry 4:30pm, summit by 5:30-6): warmer, more people, sun sets fast (10 min golden window), descent in dusk. Sunrise is my strong recommendation - the mist alone is worth the early wake. Also better light for photographing the rock itself from Pidurangala opposite (sunrise light angle).
Alternative: climb Pidurangala Rock for sunrise (shorter climb, better VIEW of Sigiriya Rock in the sunrise light), then Sigiriya proper mid-morning. Both experiences, both worth it.
