Solo woman walking Galle Fort ramparts after 9pm — lit streets only or just stay inside the walls?
Staying inside the Fort for five nights. Want the sunset-to-evening rampart walk but I am solo. Locals at breakfast said the Fort is fine; travel blogs say do not wander. After 9pm is it still normal to walk the lit lanes to a restaurant and back, or should I PickMe even for ten minutes?

Inside Galle Fort after 9pm is generally calm compared with many coastal towns — families, other travelers, and lit cafe streets. Stick to the main lit lanes and the busier rampart stretches where people still sit. Skip empty dark bastions alone, skip shortcuts through quiet alleys with no shops open, and keep phone/bag zipped. For a restaurant ten minutes away inside the walls, walking is normal; if you are outside the Fort gates toward the bus stand or dark beach access, use PickMe. Share your live location with someone and tell your guesthouse your route.
Same advice I give Colombo guests scaled down: busy light good, empty dark no. The Fort is not a guarantee — it is a smaller, usually friendlier grid.
Did the lit loop to dinner and back. Skipped the dark bastion photo. Felt ordinary, not scary.
If you leave the Fort gates late for the main road, open the app. Inside the walls I rarely get late short hops because people walk.
