For a 9-month-old, south coast in dry season (Nov-Apr) is easiest: short flights, familiar hotel amenities, calm sea for beach mornings. Baby-friendly properties: Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle (large villa suites, kid amenities), Amaya Hills or Amaya Beach (family-focused), Jetwing Lighthouse Galle (colonial-era, spacious rooms). Avoid: safari-focused stays (jeep bouncing not baby-friendly), Adam's Peak, remote east coast in wet season. Practical: bring baby's formula/food (limited local availability of specific Western brands), rent a car seat (~$15/day), bring mosquito netting for cots.
Also: Colombo private hospitals (Lanka, Asiri, Nawaloka) have pediatric care if any issue arises. Peace of mind for parents. And Sri Lankan hospitality embraces babies - staff will dote.
