Breakdown: dorm bed 1500-2500 LKR (~$5-8), local rice and curry meals 400-800 LKR (~$1.50-3), tuk-tuk short hops 200-500 LKR, train tickets 200-1500 LKR depending on class/distance, entry fees to key sites 3000-6000 LKR (Sigiriya, Yala safari extras). Reserve $50-100 buffer per week for splurges (whale watching, one nice dinner).

You can go lower - $22-28/day if you skip all major paid attractions and stick to beaches + hiking. But that misses the point of Sri Lanka. $35-40 is the sweet spot for a genuine experience.
