Only 5 nights, landing and departing Colombo. What's the smartest itinerary that isn't a rushed nightmare?

Realistic 5-night itinerary that isn't punishing: (1) Day 1 - Arrival, night in Negombo (near CMB airport - 15 min drive vs 1 hour to Colombo). Rest. (2) Day 2 - Drive to Sigiriya area (3.5 hours), afternoon Dambulla caves + Pidurangala sunset. Overnight Habarana or Sigiriya. (3) Day 3 - Sigiriya climb at 6am dawn, then drive to Kandy (2.5 hours), Temple of Tooth 6:30pm evening ceremony. Overnight Kandy. (4) Day 4 - Kandy morning, drive or train to Ella (5-6 hours if train, 4 hours if car). Overnight Ella. (5) Day 5 - Ella morning (Little Adam's Peak sunrise + Nine Arch), then drive to Colombo airport (6 hours via expressway). This skips beach and Yala - if beach is priority, swap Kandy for a beach night and skip Ella. Full but doable.

Chauffeur + return-trip mindset. Thank you!

Chauffeur is essential for this pace - $80-100/day, they handle logistics. Do NOT try self-drive or public transport for 5-day itinerary. Also: this is a 'sampler' trip - you'll want to return for 2-3 weeks after this. Almost everyone who does 5 days plans a return trip within 2 years.

Adjustment if you want a beach night: skip Kandy Temple night, go Sigiriya → straight to south coast (Bentota or Galle - 5 hours from Sigiriya). Skip Ella + Kandy entirely. Do beach 2 nights + Colombo departure. Less 'cultural' but more relaxing. Sri Lanka in 5 days is a taste, not a deep-dive.
