All-inclusive is common at beach resorts in Bentota, Passikudah, Tangalle. Value analysis: at 4-star all-inclusive ($150-250/night per person including meals + drinks), you're saving $30-50/day per person on independent dining IF you'd otherwise eat 3 meals at the hotel restaurant. If you'd venture out to local restaurants (which is where great Sri Lankan food is), all-inclusive locks you into hotel meals. Best all-inclusive picks: Cinnamon Bey Beruwala, Amaya Beach Passikudah, Heritance Ahungalla. For family with young kids who won't leave the resort much: good value. For explorers: not.

Half-board approach. Thanks!

Also: half-board (breakfast + dinner) at 4-star resorts is often better value than full all-inclusive - allows local lunch adventures while covering hotel meals. Ask about half-board rates.
