Sri Lanka dark-sky sites for astrophotography: (1) Horton Plains + surroundings (2000m elevation, minimal light pollution, coldest nights). (2) Wasgamuwa National Park interior (jungle darkness, elephant activity soundtrack). (3) Wilpattu National Park (large wilderness). (4) Kalpitiya salt pans (unique reflective foreground). (5) Kithulgala rainforest edges (canopy silhouettes). (6) Bogawantalawa Valley (tea estates + Milky Way). (7) Adam's Peak area (mid-elevation, clear sky). Best months: July-November (galactic core visible). New moon +/- 3 days. Southern Cross visible year-round at Sri Lanka's latitude.

Also: Southern Hemisphere astro travelers coming to Sri Lanka discover different sky orientation from India/Nepal. Southern Cross clear, Magellanic clouds observable in extreme dark sites. Bring star charts oriented for Sri Lanka's latitude.

Wasgamuwa tented camps are incredible base for astrophotography - dark sky + wildlife soundtrack + luxury tent for rest. Book Mahoora Tented Safari Camps or Ceylon Wild Camps. USD 400-800/night full board.

For gear: 14-24mm f/2.8 wide lens ideal, tripod essential, remote shutter, wide-angle sky trackers helpful (star trails prevention). ISO 3200-6400, 25 sec exposure, f/2.8 typical Milky Way settings. Bring warm layers (Horton Plains 5-10C at night), snacks + water (long shoots).

Booking Wasgamuwa Ceylon Wild Camps for October new moon week. This is peak Milky Way season + jungle atmosphere. Bringing my Sony A7 IV + 14-24mm f/2.8 + tracker. This is the astro trip I've dreamed of.

Weather planning: dry season correlates with clearest skies. December-March for south + hill country. May-September for east coast dark sites. Cloud + haze reduce visibility significantly - check forecasts 3-5 days ahead.
