Sri Lanka best Batticaloa attractions - is it worth the visit?
3 Answers from travellers
Batticaloa (Batti) is off most tourist radars but worth 2-3 days for cultural travelers. Highlights: Kallady Bridge (famous 'singing fish' sounds mystery, evening walks), Batticaloa Fort (Portuguese-Dutch colonial), Passikudah beach (30 min north - one of Sri Lanka's calmest bays, family-friendly), Kalkuda beach, Batticaloa Lagoon (boat tours, mangroves). Tamil culture predominant, unique cuisine (jaffna-style + local), less commercialized than Trinco. Best May-September. Base at Passikudah for beach or in Batti town for culture.
Combine with Trincomalee (2-3 hour drive north) for a full east coast experience. Batti-Passikudah-Trinco chain works over 6-7 days. Skip if you have less than 2 weeks total in Sri Lanka - south + hills fills quickly.
