Sri Lanka best beach horse riding operator - real horses?
3 Answers from travellers
Sri Lanka beach horse rides: (1) Mount Lavinia Beach horse riding (Colombo - some hire operations, casual). (2) Bentota Beach - a couple of small operators around Bentota River area. (3) Nilaveli/Trincomalee - some seasonal beach ride operations. Small industry compared to horse-riding destinations like Bali or Turkey. Ride quality/horse welfare varies enormously. Check operator's horse care before booking - underfed horses common. Book through reputable stables associated with hotels.
Best organized: Nilaveli area has a small operation with well-cared horses - Nilaveli Beach Horse Riding. USD 20-40 for 1-hour beach ride. Uda Walawe area also has occasional horse riding through jungle-edge routes. Sri Lanka isn't a horse-riding destination - manage expectations.
