Sri Lanka best breakfast dishes - what beyond hoppers should I try?
3 Answers from travellers
Beyond hoppers try: string hoppers (idiyappam - fine rice noodle nests with dhal + coconut sambol + kiri hodi coconut gravy), kiribath (milk rice, festival breakfast, with lunu miris), roti with dhal or seeni sambol (caramelized onion relish), pittu (steamed rice flour + coconut, with coconut milk), thosai/dosa (South Indian influenced), coconut roti with sambol, kola kanda (herbal porridge, medicinal, breakfast of villagers).
Order at a busy morning kade before 9am for freshest - most breakfast dishes don't hold well. String hoppers with white curry (mild coconut milk curry with soft-boiled egg) is a personal favorite. Sinhalese wedding-day breakfast.
