Sri Lanka best canyoning Kitulgala - safety records?
3 Answers from travellers
Kitulgala canyoning is established since ~2010, run by Borderlands, Kitugala Adventure, Rafters Retreat. Standard route: 3-hour canyon descent with abseils (up to 30m), waterslides, jumps. Safety records generally good - accidents rare but not zero (occasional injuries from rocks). Choose an operator with certified guides and proper gear (helmets, wetsuits, harnesses). Borderlands is longest-established. Cost USD 60-100 per person full day including rafting + canyoning combo.
Also: white water rafting on the Kelani River is milder alternative (grades 2-3). Full-day combo canyoning + rafting is popular. Wet, tiring, fun. Bring change of clothes, dry bag, water shoes. Not for non-swimmers.
