Sri Lanka best Ceylon tea brand to buy - Dilmah, Basilur, other?
3 Answers from travellers
Dilmah = most internationally recognized, premium quality, single-origin garden teas at their better range (skip mass-market blends, get Dilmah 'Silver Jubilee' or single-estate lines). Basilur = beautiful packaging, gift-oriented, quality varies. Also worth: Bogawantalawa 'Ceylon Tea Trails' brand, Mlesna (Sri Lanka boutique), Zesta. For true tea enthusiasts: buy directly from a plantation you visit - Pedro, Damro Labookellie, Handunugoda all sell freshly-packed leaf. Premium single-origin often better than any brand.
Silver Tips or Golden Tips (from Handunugoda) are unique to Sri Lanka - white tea from young buds, delicate, expensive. Great gift. Skip supermarket tea bags - the leaf quality is way better.
