Sri Lanka best Christian pilgrimage sites route - Catholic and Anglican?
3 Answers from travellers
Christian pilgrimage circuit: (1) Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka Ragama (national basilica, major pilgrimage site). (2) St. Anthony's Shrine Kochchikade Colombo (major miracle site, weekly Tuesday devotions). (3) St. Sebastian Church Kandana (feast January, huge crowds). (4) Our Lady of Madhu Church (Madhu Shrine - post-civil war restoration, deeply moving). (5) St. Anne's Church Talawila (August feast, seaside pilgrimage). (6) Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lanka Tewatte. (7) Anglican: St. Peter's Church Fort Colombo (Dutch/British era). Combine with Negombo Catholic heritage (Little Rome). Feast days are the spiritual peak - schedule around them if possible.
Madhu Shrine pilgrimage (Mannar district, north) is Sri Lanka's most significant Catholic site - annual August festival draws 100,000+ pilgrims. Reopened post-civil war with major restoration. Very moving for Catholic visitors. Combine with Mannar Island trip.
