Sri Lanka best deep sea fishing charter - what species will I catch?
3 Answers from travellers
Sri Lanka deep sea fishing hits: sailfish (peak Nov-April), blue marlin (rare but present, Nov-March), yellowfin tuna (year-round), dorado/mahi-mahi (year-round), wahoo (Nov-March), skipjack tuna (year-round). Charters from Negombo (west, established scene) and Trincomalee (east coast, May-Sept). Boats 25-40 feet, 4-6 anglers per charter. Gear included on charters. Cost: half-day USD 250-450, full-day USD 450-800. Operators: Sri Lanka Sport Fishing (Negombo), Blue Whale Sport Fishing (Mirissa), Poseidon Sport Fishing (Trincomalee).
Also: catch-and-release policy varies by operator - specify if you want to keep fish or release. Some operators cook your catch onboard for lunch - unforgettable. Book with a specific captain by name checking reviews - crew quality varies.
