Sri Lanka best deep tissue massage therapist - real pressure?
3 Answers from travellers
Real deep tissue therapists: (1) Nawaloka Sports Medicine Centre (physio-grade deep tissue for athletes). (2) Colombo Physiotherapy + Sports Injury Clinic. (3) Some Ayurvedic hospitals offer 'traditional deep pressure massage' - genuinely intense (Siddhalepa Hospital, Bandaranaike Ayurvedic Institute). (4) Chinese TCM clinics with tuina practitioners (deep manipulation). (5) Private therapist Shantha (25 years experience, Colombo - contact via referral). Session 60-90 min, LKR 4000-15000. Verify: 'deep tissue' means genuine trigger point work + muscular release, not just harder pressure than a regular massage.
Ayurvedic 'padabhyanga' (foot work) + 'shirodhara' (oil pouring on forehead) are different from Western deep tissue. If you want Western sports-medicine deep tissue: physio clinics are better than Ayurvedic centers. Nawaloka Sports Medicine has trained sports therapists who understand Western athletes.
Nawaloka Sports Medicine sounds exactly right. Question: do they require doctor referral or can I book directly as international patient? My hamstring has been tight for weeks and I want proper trigger point release, not the standard hotel spa version.
