Dutch VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) 1640-1796 legacy sites:

  1. Galle Fort (Dutch expanded 1663+, defensive masterpiece).

  2. Dutch Reformed Church Galle (1755).

  3. Amsterdam Diorama in Colombo.

  4. Colombo Dutch Museum (Pettah, formerly VOC merchant house).

  5. Jaffna Fort (Dutch built 1680 - dramatically damaged in civil war, being restored).

  6. Batticaloa Fort (Dutch rebuilt 1665).

  7. Star Fort Matara (Dutch 1763 - small but preserved).

  8. Kalpitiya Dutch Fort (Dutch 1667).

  9. Mannar Dutch Fort (partially preserved).

  10. Old Dutch Hospital Colombo Fort (now precinct).

Dutch legacy is arguably strongest colonial layer - law codes, architecture, roads, agricultural land. Full circuit: 7-10 days across coast.

Also: Sri Lanka law system still incorporates Roman-Dutch law traditions. Burgher community (Dutch descendants) heritage - Dutch Burgher Union in Colombo has records + cultural events. Some Burgher family homes are open occasionally. Colombo National Museum has excellent VOC exhibits.
