Sri Lanka best film location tour - Bridge on River Kwai?
3 Answers from travellers
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) was famously filmed at Kitulgala on the Kelani River - the bridge remains destroyed underwater since (they blew it up for the film). Kitulgala tours can visit the bridge remnants location + panels/film history at nearby lodges. Kitulgala combines with white water rafting (Kelani River) + rainforest walks. Also filmed here: Elephant Walk (1954), various local films. Best base: Kitulgala Rest House or Borderlands adventure camp.
Also: Sri Lanka has been used for various Bollywood and Hollywood shoots recently - Sigiriya as ancient sets, Galle Fort as European colonial period. Some film location tours in Colombo. Kitulgala River Kwai is the iconic film site.
