Authentic fishing village stays: (1) Negombo homestay area (Sri Lanka's biggest fishing town - Catholic culture, homestays with fishermen families common). (2) Mirissa small fishing village homestay (less commercial than beach zone). (3) Trincomalee area fishing villages (east coast Tamil fishing community). (4) Kalpitiya lagoon fisher village stays. (5) Tangalle fishing beach homestays. For real fishing village + culture: Negombo has established homestay circuit (contact Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation for verified hosts). USD 20-40/night with 3 meals. Wake at 4am to help launch boats (offer to help - never expected, always appreciated).

Booking 3 nights via Ecotourism Foundation in Negombo. Question: is it OK if I don't help with fishing at 4am? Genuinely nervous about pre-dawn boat launches but want authentic experience during more social daytime hours.

Negombo lagoon area especially: Catholic community with strong fishing traditions, morning fish market (Lellama) 5:30am is unforgettable cultural experience even without homestay commitment. Combine with day trip if not doing homestay. Fresh fish auctions, boat traffic, community rituals.
