Sri Lankan hibiscus tea (from Hibiscus sabdariffa - roselle plant, called 'gongura' or 'suraran' locally): (1) Dilmah's Hibiscus + Rose blend (widely available). (2) Fresh brewed at some Ayurvedic cafes (Sonjas, Ranweli). (3) Dried hibiscus flowers from Ayurvedic pharmacies (Bandaranaike, Siddhalepa) - brew your own, most authentic. (4) Local villages grow roselle - fresh flowers seasonal. (5) Some organic farms sell dried hibiscus. Health benefits (Ayurvedic tradition): blood pressure regulation, iron content, anti-inflammatory, natural antioxidant. Dried hibiscus USD 3-8 per 100g. Brew: 1 tbsp per cup boiling water, steep 5 min, add honey.

Question: is fresh roselle in season now (December)? I've read it's seasonal. Trying to plan whether to pursue fresh village experience or stick with dried Bandaranaike pharmacy source.

Cold brew method excellent in tropical heat: 2 tbsp dried hibiscus + 1L cold water, refrigerate 4-8 hours, strain, add lime + honey. Refreshing summer beverage. Serve over ice with mint. Bright ruby color, tangy flavor.

Combined blends worth trying: hibiscus + rosehip + Ceylon cinnamon = digestive support. Hibiscus + ginger + honey = daily wellness. Sri Lankan tea blenders make custom mixes at Dilmah t-Lounge Kandy on request.

Also: fresh roselle plants grown in some village home gardens. If staying in homestay, ask for 'gongura' - many villages grow. Home cook prepares fresh brew. Uniquely Sri Lankan experience.
