Sri Lanka best hot springs Kanniya visit - Trincomalee area?
3 Answers from travellers
Kanniya Hot Springs (near Trincomalee) is Sri Lanka's most famous - 7 natural hot water wells in a walled compound, ancient origin. Water temperatures 27-40C (warm, not scalding). Entry LKR 100-200. Facilities basic (small bath cubicles, bring your own bucket, pour water over yourself - not full submerge tubs). More cultural/spiritual than luxury spa. Time needed: 1-2 hours. Best combined with Trincomalee visit. Also worth: Mahapelessa Hot Springs (near Embilipitiya - less known, similar structure). Not resort experience - traditional public bathing culture.
For hot spring + wellness combo: no luxury hot spring resorts exist in Sri Lanka. Kanniya is the real thing but rustic. If wanting spa-thermal experience: some Ayurvedic centers offer 'heated herbal baths' (Barberyn, Siddhalepa) which mimic thermal experience with medicinal water. Different but wellness-focused.
