Mannar Island (northwest, connected by causeway to mainland) offers: (1) Adam's Bridge (Ram Setu - chain of limestone shoals connecting Sri Lanka to India, historic/mythological). (2) Baobab tree (500-year-old African baobab, planted by Arab traders). (3) Talaimannar lighthouse and Ram Setu view. (4) Mannar Fort (Portuguese-Dutch). (5) Wild horses of Delft Island (day trip - iconic ponies roaming a small island). (6) Bird life (migratory flamingos, ospreys). (7) Palmyra products (unique to region). Off-beat, dry-country landscape. 2-3 days ideal. Combine with Wilpattu (nearby) or Jaffna (2 hours further).
Delft Island day-trip is unforgettable - wild horses, coral fence walls, ancient temples, Portuguese ruins. Ferry from Kurikadduwan (Jaffna area) plus 1-hour drive. Full day. Mannar itself works for baobab + Adam's Bridge sunset. Both together = full week Northern experience.
