Sri Lanka best model trains hobby scene - collectors community?
3 Answers from travellers
Sri Lankan model railway hobby is small but present:
Colombo Hobby Shop (Wellawatte - carries some Hornby, Bachmann models, HO + N scale).
Sri Lanka Model Railway Association (small hobbyist group - contact via Facebook).
Some collectors focus on modeling Sri Lankan Railway M2 diesels + heritage rolling stock (custom builds).
National Railway Museum Colombo has full-scale exhibits but no operating model railway.
Imports available via Amazon delivery + specialty importers.
Not comparable to UK/US/Japan hobby scene but community exists. For Sri Lankan railway modeling specifically: unique niche - custom paint jobs of local rolling stock.

Also: some coliving spaces + boutique cafes have model train setups (novelty attractions). And National Railway Museum Colombo is worth visit for railway enthusiasts (heritage locomotives, colonial-era railway artifacts, small entry fee). Cinnamon Air Colombo-Jaffna scenic flight passes over some heritage railway lines - visible from air.
