Molagoda pottery village (near Kegalle, on Kandy road) - Sri Lanka's traditional pottery center, hundreds of family potters. Buying tips: (1) Buy directly from workshop, not roadside stalls (better prices + selection). (2) Look for: traditional gundu bung (large water pot), miti bath (rice pot), thelibath (curry pot) - functional pottery. (3) Modern decorative work: budumal fired glazed pieces. Prices LKR 300-15000 depending on size + complexity. Shipping: village doesn't handle - arrange via DHL or Aramex Colombo office (bulk shipping to US/EU USD 100-300 for medium pot). Wrap carefully - pottery breaks in transit.

Also: Kandy Central Market has some potters selling smaller pieces (easier to travel with). Small pieces (250-500g each) can go in luggage wrapped in clothes. For serious collectors: contact Molagoda Cooperative directly - they arrange curated shipping for repeat foreign buyers. Excellent value for hand-thrown work.
