Sri Lankan weddings often welcome foreigners as guests when invited by family. Realistic paths: (1) Homestay hosts sometimes invite guests to family weddings during peak wedding season (Nov-Dec, April, June-July). (2) Chauffeur guides sometimes offer to bring you to wedding of extended family. (3) Some cultural centres arrange 'observation' of traditional ceremonies (Kandyan wedding demonstrations). Genuine wedding attendance: dress respectfully (women covered arms and knees, men long trousers + shirt), bring small cash gift in envelope (LKR 2000-5000), attend ceremony + reception. Follow host's lead - some ceremonies have 3-hour rituals foreigners find long.
Alternative if no invitation: attend 'Poruwa ceremony' demonstration at Waters Edge Colombo or Cinnamon Grand's cultural nights - staged but educational. Traditional Kandyan wedding has 4-5 hour ritual sequence: Poruwa mangalya, exchange of rings, kolam presentation, oil lamp lighting, milk rice cutting. Photography usually welcomed. Coming with respect + curiosity is warmly received.
