Temperature 2026 by region: (1) COASTS (Colombo, Galle, Trinco) - year-round 26-31C daytime, 22-25C nights. Humidity makes it feel warmer. (2) CULTURAL TRIANGLE (Sigiriya, Anuradhapura) - year-round 28-34C daytime, drier so more comfortable, warm nights 24-27C. (3) HILL COUNTRY - Ella 18-25C, Nuwara Eliya 15-22C daytime; nights can drop to 10-14C. Layers needed. (4) NORTH (Jaffna) - hot dry 28-33C, similar to cultural triangle. Coldest month in hills: January (Nuwara Eliya can reach 5C at night). Hottest month overall: April (pre-monsoon heat).
Practical: bring light layers for hill country any time of year. Nuwara Eliya evenings surprise unprepared visitors - fireplaces are lit in December. Coasts stay warm. Cultural triangle can be intensely hot 12-3pm in April.
