Iconic Sri Lankan railway photo spots: (1) Nine Arch Bridge Ella - THE shot, best from gorge below at 6:20am train. (2) Demodara loop station (where train forms a loop above itself - unique in world). (3) Idalgashinna Station (rolling tea estate + train). (4) Sri Pada foothills line (misty morning atmosphere). (5) Ella station itself (colonial-era platform + tea gardens backdrop). (6) Coastal line Galle to Matara (waves nearly hitting train). (7) Peradeniya Junction (colonial architecture). (8) Ohiya station (highest railway in Sri Lanka). Best time: 5-7am and 4-6pm for golden light. Bring telephoto (200-400mm) for compression shots + wide (24mm) for context.

Also: Sri Lankan trains use vintage rolling stock (M2 diesel + old carriages) which photograph like time-capsules. Steam locomotive occasional heritage runs happen (check Sri Lanka Railways heritage schedule). Waverley Estate curve between Bandarawela + Ohiya is underrated - tight tree-canopy corridor. Ask local station masters for train times same-day.
