Sri Lanka best travel insurance for adventure activities - what covers what?

Adventure-tier travel insurance for Sri Lanka: (1) World Nomads Explorer plan - covers scuba to 30m certified, hiking to 6000m, surfing, sea kayaking; motorbike/scooter needs specific rider (check policy - often requires valid motorcycle license from home country). (2) IMG Global Patriot Adventure - similar coverage, higher medical limits, better evacuation. (3) Battleface (formerly Sportsura) - most comprehensive for extreme sports, ziplining, canyoning, whitewater rafting all included. (4) SafetyWing Nomad Insurance - budget option, decent adventure coverage but lower limits. (5) IHI Bupa Travel - premium option for older travelers. For scuba+surf+hike+scooter combo: World Nomads Explorer + motorbike rider, or Battleface all-included. Read the specific 'adventure activity list' in your policy - not all 'adventure' policies cover the same activities. Cost USD 80-200 for 2 weeks depending on age and coverage.
Sri Lanka private hospitals (Nawaloka, Asiri, Lanka) are excellent for adventure injuries - broken bones, concussions, marine stings. Cash payment then insurance reimbursement is often faster than trying to arrange direct billing. Save all receipts and detailed medical records. Emergency evacuation to Singapore/Bangkok covered if injury is beyond local capacity - make sure your policy has minimum $100k evacuation coverage.
Critical: alcohol involvement voids most claims. Even one beer before a scooter ride = denied claim if you're in an accident. Also: many policies exclude 'motorcycle without proper license' - your car license does NOT cover scooter rental in Sri Lanka. Get an International Driving Permit with motorcycle endorsement + AAC recognition. Otherwise you're uninsured on that scooter. Not worth risking - motorbike accidents are the #1 insurance claim here.
