Sri Lanka best waterfall hike - Bambarakanda or Diyaluma?
3 Answers from travellers
Different experiences. Bambarakanda Falls (Sri Lanka's tallest at 263m) - the falls themselves are visible from base, drama in scale. Hike is short (30-45 min to viewpoint) but you can extend to Lanka Ella Falls above via a jungle trail (4-5 hour hike, guide recommended). Diyaluma Falls (220m, 2nd tallest) - moderate hike to the top pools (90 min), swim in natural rock pools with views, then hike back. Better all-round experience for most travelers. For dramatic scale: Bambarakanda. For hike + swim reward: Diyaluma.
Diyaluma with a stop for lunch at nearby village = perfect day. Bambarakanda is more remote (from Haputale). Both fine, Diyaluma more accessible. Wet weather makes trails slippery - Dec-Mar dry conditions best.
