December 20 - January 5 is Sri Lanka's peak-peak - prices 40-100% above shoulder season, minimum-stay requirements (many properties require 4-7 nights minimum), booking windows filling by August. For 2026 Christmas: book by August 2026 for top properties. Some luxury (Cape Weligama, Amanwella) books out 6-9 months ahead for this window. Airfares similar - book by August for reasonable prices.

Alternative if late booking: shift dates to Jan 4-15 (still peak weather, prices drop 30-40% after New Year rush ends). Same experience, cheaper. Or Nov 15-Dec 15 (shoulder-peak - lower prices, weather already good).
