Yes - all drones require CAASL (Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka) registration and permits, including personal hobby drones. Process: apply at least 30 days before travel via caa.lk, submit passport, drone specs, itinerary of intended flying locations. Cost around USD 50-100. Permits are location-specific - Sigiriya, Kandy, national parks are all no-fly by default. Bringing a drone without permit = customs seizure at CMB. Enforced.
Reality check: many hobbyists just skip the paperwork and fly quietly in remote areas, but if you're spotted (villagers often report drones), you'll be detained until permits sorted. Not worth the risk on a 2-week trip. Either permit properly or leave the drone home.
